Are you stressed because of work?

Before you read further, can you please ask a question to yourself, and this is very important okay.

What is stressing you? Work? Or People at work?

Let me guess, your answer is “people at work”.

If you are working for a corporate, your answer could be –“People at work ”

Yeah, so in general it is always people who stress us out and never work.

How can you change this? How can you change stress to lightness and fun?

1. Empathise –
First and foremost, let me remind you this basic concept of life, that we are all aware of, but somewhere forgotten.
We all are the reflection of our inner emotions.
When you are happy, you are generally polite, patient, loving and you are quite fine about everything.
Similarly, how is your reaction when you are insecure and angry, you are mean to everybody around you and you demand attention, right?
Does that make you are bad person. No right.
It is the same thing with your people at work. Just empathise with them. If they are joyful from within, they would never be mean to anybody.

2. Stop contributing to their emotion
Emotions such as insecurity, angry, sad, pitty chooses a lot of attention and feeds on a lot of energy. If your manager/client is going through any of this, they are sucking energy out of you and you feel drained, tired and some of us even get perpetual headaches and also fall ill.
Sub-consciously tell your manager/boss, from today onwards I will not contribute my energy to you as it is draining me and am sorry.
This way you are telling yourself also to stop contributing.

3. Stop empowering their thoughts/ideas
Every time your reaction to their thought leads to empowering their thoughts. You are just making those thoughts and ideas more powerful and allowing it to eat you up.
Please, please, please – remind yourself, nobody is more powerful than you or less powerful than you. We are all same.
The other person becomes more powerful because we, yes we contribute to their thoughts/ideas by reacting to it.
During every conversation you have with your boss, tell yourself (not aloud, in your mind), interesting point of view, they have this point of view, interesting point of view, they have this point of view.
Repeat this as many times as you require. By doing so, you so disconnect from that situation, and this whole situation becomes a 2D movie you are watching and you are no more playing a part in it.
By doing so, you will stop reacting to them, instead you will only respond.
Initially it may be difficult to practice this, eventually it will be your paradigm.
This simple tool is so powerful, you will change your life completely.
You can use this tool for any situation.

Breaking free from the prison of “The Past”

“Breathe. Let go and remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure” – Oprah Winfrey

“Free yourself from the past” or “let go of the past”- doesn’t this invoke a sense of déjà vu?

Life is cyclical. There are peaks and troughs in each of our lives. Unfortunately, we hard wire our brains to hang on to the moments that have been unpleasant or rather I should say difficult. We travel back to the past and re-live those moments of pain and suffering each day of our lives.

Little do we realise that those moments of the past are long gone. Life is short. All we have is NOW. Every moment, every day is new and presents us with opportunities to create new experiences. Each experience propels us to explore an unchartered territory and helps us discover new and interesting facets to our personality. It’s all about viewing the world with a different lens. We have been blessed with the gift of “Choice”. While circumstances may not be in our control, how we choose to act in those circumstances is determined solely by us. We can choose to complain, wallow in self-pity, blame others and situations for the way we think and feel. On the other hand, we can choose to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and march forwards to create a better today.

Each one us has different lessons to learn in life. Life unfolds in a certain way to enable us to learn these lessons. For example, each one of us wants to control and direct our lives in a certain way. We refuse to surrender and go with the flow. We will continue to encounter situations in some form or the other where we have no control over what is happening until we “learn to surrender.” It is just like making kids repeat a certain task until they get right.

If we analyse our lives carefully, there is a pattern to it. When we encounter situations where we are trying to avoid or escape from something, the lesson to be learnt is confrontation. When we are presented with experiences which cause hurt and resentment, the lesson to be learnt is forgiveness.

When we start viewing our experiences positively, look for a deeper meaning in them and just go with the flow, life becomes so much easier and so much more fascinating.

We are obsessed with complicating things instead of simplifying them. All we need to do is: “Let go of yesterday, remember the lessons and embrace today to create a better tomorrow.” – Kavitha Rai
