1. Empathise – First and foremost, let me remind you this basic concept of life, that we are all aware of, but somewhere forgotten. We all are the reflection of our inner emotions. When you are happy, you are generally polite, patient, loving and you are quite fine about everything. Similarly, how is your reaction when you are insecure and angry, you are mean to everybody around you and you demand attention, right? Does that make you are bad person. No right. It is the same thing with your people at work. Just empathise with them. If they are joyful from within, they would never be mean to anybody.
2. Stop contributing to their emotion Emotions such as insecurity, angry, sad, pitty chooses a lot of attention and feeds on a lot of energy. If your manager/client is going through any of this, they are sucking energy out of you and you feel drained, tired and some of us even get perpetual headaches and also fall ill. Sub-consciously tell your manager/boss, from today onwards I will not contribute my energy to you as it is draining me and am sorry. This way you are telling yourself also to stop contributing.
3. Stop empowering their thoughts/ideas Every time your reaction to their thought leads to empowering their thoughts. You are just making those thoughts and ideas more powerful and allowing it to eat you up. Please, please, please – remind yourself, nobody is more powerful than you or less powerful than you. We are all same. The other person becomes more powerful because we, yes we contribute to their thoughts/ideas by reacting to it. During every conversation you have with your boss, tell yourself (not aloud, in your mind), interesting point of view, they have this point of view, interesting point of view, they have this point of view. Repeat this as many times as you require. By doing so, you so disconnect from that situation, and this whole situation becomes a 2D movie you are watching and you are no more playing a part in it. By doing so, you will stop reacting to them, instead you will only respond. Initially it may be difficult to practice this, eventually it will be your paradigm. This simple tool is so powerful, you will change your life completely. You can use this tool for any situation.
